Penalties in Alabama

Burning woodland, grassland, or a field without a required permit is a Class B misdemeanor under Ala. Code § 9-13-11. During a Fire Alert, permits go only to Certified Prescribed Burn Managers, so ordinary burning is unpermitted by definition. Anyone who starts a wildfire can also be billed for the full cost of suppression, including equipment and personnel.

Classification: Class B misdemeanor · Maximum fine: up to $1,000 and up to 6 months in jail

Limits of this information

burnbanradar reads public burn-ban orders as published by Alabama Forestry Commission and reports them unchanged. Cities and municipalities within DeKalb county may impose stricter rules than the county order. Water districts and state forestry rules may add further restrictions. When an order is ambiguous or the source cannot be reached, we show Unconfirmed instead of guessing a status. The county's own posted order governs.
